Megan Reitenour was invited to participate in Jeff Gordon's second charity event benefit for this season. This "Ultimate Speed" event was presented by Pacific Technical Resources, Inc and was held at Victory Lane Karting in Charlotte, NC.
The mission of the Jeff Gordon Foundation is to support children battling cancer by funding programs that improve a patient's quality of life and treatment programs that increase survivorship and pediatric medical research dedicated to finding a cure for cancer. The funding which was raised from the Ultimate Speed Event will help fund state-of- the art cardiac/respiratory monitors, needed to care for patients at the Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital.
To kick off the event, the untold rivalry of Jeff Gordon and ESPN's very own, Kenny Mayne was settled with Jeff Gordon holding the "Championship Title". Then the ultimate challenge followed as Reitenour and fifteen other professional drivers took to the track to go one on one with four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Jeff Gordon accompanied by NASCAR Sprint Cup Drivers, Kasey Kahne and Max Papis. Reitenour said, "This is an event I look forward to every year. It's an honor to get to race with racers that I have looked up to all my life and at the same time support such a wonderful cause. As I see it, it can't get much better than that."
